Guido Arnot was one of the first art dealers in Vienna who sustained a committed interest in Schiele’s art, which he began buying in 1912. In 1914 he mounted an exhibition of Schiele’s work and a smaller exhibition followed until 1918, the year of Schiele’s death.
The picture was bought by an anonymous buyer underbid by leading American collector Ronald Lauder.
