The proposed opening of a major new saleroom in an undisclosed London location will mean movement of departments and staff from Bond Street and the Sussex saleroom at Billingshurst. A continuing role as a venue for top sales is envisaged for the flagship rooms in Bond Street, but the future for Billingshurst remains uncertain.

Sotheby’s say that no further announcements can be expected until they have completed a statutory period of consultation with employees involved in the changes. All staff have received letters and those affected by the plan have been told that the new structure could mean re-location, redundancies, changes of role and new responsibilities. Individual discussions are under way and Sotheby’s say that staff are electing representatives to talk to the company.
It is understood that any redundancies will be announced on December 14.
