Entered by a descendant of one of Campbell’s engineers, the lot included various photographs of Sir Malcolm, his family and mechanical entourage alongside various racing cars including Bluebird and an autographed photo postcard of Campbell. It brought £550.
A set of c.1900 personal scales by Avery, with leather seat, oak base and previously unrecorded mechanism took the day’s top price when a specialist collector weighed in with £900.
Matchbox toys also generated interest from collectors and cigarette cards seemed to be selling well again.
One of the most notable entries was a quantity of British American Tobacco printed silk cards Best Dogs of their Breed. The lot brought a double estimate at £180.
