Although groupings of this sort are not unheard of, what makes 54-year-old engineer Mike Calvert’s collection stand out is its superb condition, says expert Julian Royse.
The 133-lot collection is mint and boxed, with many untouched since their acquisition 50 years ago.
Mr Calvert was given a Hornby Dublo train set as a boy in the 1950s and decided to complete the factory run, but only by buying pieces in pristine condition. “I travelled all over the country looking for items,” he said.
“They had to be mint and boxed although this was impossible with some of the rarer items.”

AN example of every Hornby Dublo model from 1948 until the Liverpool factory went out of business in 1964 will come for up auction as a single collection at Barry Potter Auctions in Rugby on July 18.
