Bernaerts, Ambères, Campo & Campo and Campo Vlaamse Kaai have chosen April 15-22 for their inaugural Antwerp Auction Week, with viewings running at each firm’s showrooms from April 15-21 (10am-6pm), followed by sales on Monday April 22 (Ambères in the afternoon, Bernaerts in the evening) and Tuesday April 23 (Campo & Campo in the afternoon, Campo Vlaamse Kaai in the evening).

Exuding a buoyant optimism that might seem to some to be in contrast to the auction mood in some other countries, the firms claimed that their joint venture reflects the prospect of 2002 being a “splendid year for Antwerp auctions” due to a combination of “economic boom, rising supply of goods, and the predominant rule of auctions” in the city’s art and antiques trade. They went on to say that their sales are attracting a “larger European public” and expect the trend to continue “now that the euro-zone has become a reality”.
