From January 29, the first exhibition of this group since the Fine Art Society’s 1970 show will include works by James Guthrie (1859-1930), George Henry (1858-1943), John Lavery (1856-1941), Edward Atkinson Hornel (1864-1933), William York Macgregor (1855-1923), Arthur Melville (1855-1904), James Patterson (1854-1932) and Edward Arthur Walton (1860-1922).

This loose-knit band of artists congregated in the Glasgow studio of one of their number during the winter, travelling widely in the summer, painting in various groups in Scotland and England, and travelling abroad to work in France, Spain, the Mediterranean, the Middle East and Japan. Vigorous use of paint and bold use of colour characterises their work.
