The partnership bought their inaugural event off Adams Antiques Fairs, but it will be completely different from the midweek table-top fairs Matthew Adams has been running.
Housing 130 professional dealers drawn from the top echelon of such fairs as Shepton Mallett, the fairs in the new grandstand will offer a broad spectrum of stock with a working dateline of 1940.
All stands will be backed and many will be fully standfitted, but there will be some open areas for furniture displays and long, shallow fitted stands for clocks, barometers and paintings.
Carmarthen-based Towy Antiques Fairs was set up in 1993 by ceramics dealers Robert and Carol Pugh and now holds six fairs a year at the Carmarthen Showground as well as events at Cardiff and Swansea.
Sue Ede has long been a familiar figure on the fairs circuit and for five years until last December was UK fairs director for DMG Antiques Fairs.
The Towy Ede Partnership have further fairs in the pipeline after Newbury but both parties will continue to organise independently. A Sue Ede announcement of the acquisition of an existing fairs circuit is believed to be imminent.
Organisers team up to launch new programme of fairs
TWO well-known organisers, Towy Antiques Fairs and Sue Ede, have joined forces as the Towy Ede Partnership to launch a new programme of fairs. The first date will be the Newbury Antiques Fair, a weekend event to be held at the Newbury Racecourse on June 15 and 16.
