Known best for his stock of 1930s and ’40s furniture and lighting, von Moltke, who has a shop at 46 Bourne Street, London SW1 will supply fresh stock on a monthly basis to RMMR’s design store in W14th St in the now fashionable Meat Packing district of New York.

After a classical training in furniture restoration Alexander worked for antique dealers in Hamburg, Munich and Paris before moving to London to work on fine 18th and 19th century furniture with the prominent London firm William Bedford.

However, he saw which way the market was going and when he opened his own shop four years ago concentrated on 20th century furniture and lighting aimed at often younger people wanting to buy and invest in art and furniture more in tune with a contemporary lifestyle.

He has built a reputation for sourcing chic French and Italian 20th century furniture, lighting and glassware to complement modern interiors. This is reflected in the dealership’s cosmopolitan client list which includes fashion designers, interior designers and film stars.

Aimed at the lofts of New York the collaboration with RMMR is a logical move for the man who says he deals in “antiques with a modern edge”.

Not surprisingly Alexander von Moltke himself advises on interior design in London and he also designs his own furniture and lighting. He has already introduced his own range of contemporary lighting and plans
a furniture collection before the year is out.
