The rendezvous, which sees Philip and Elizabeth’s portraits hanging in the same room, has come about thanks to Madrid’s Prado museum, which has loaned the Villandrando portrait of the 17th century Spanish king, pictured right, to them.
The loan is a return favour for Parham loaning the Prado its portrait of Charles, Prince of Wales by Mytens, for the museum’s exhibition Artistic Relations between Madrid and London, 1604-1654.
The portrait of Philip IV, shown here, includes the depiction of the dwarf Soplillo, representing the symbol of the protection of the king to his subjects, very frequent in Spanish portraits.
The painting can be viewed at Parham, near Pulborough, from March 31. Further details on 01903 742021.

A ROYAL remarriage will take place at Parham House in Sussex at the end of this month between King Philip IV of Spain and Elizabeth of France.
