The 3ft 3in (1m) high bear had a detachable drip tray and stood on a plinth base. Contested way over its £600-900 estimate, the bear took a £1800 bid from the trade.
Other successes at the Somerset rooms included an early 19th century mahogany longcase clock signed G.Hancock, Midsomer Norton. The 7ft 2in (2.18m) high clock had a swan neck pediment to the hood and reeded pillars with boxwood stringing to the trunk which also had a crossbanded door. With a fan-shaped calender apertured to the painted dial, the clock brought £3900 against top hopes of £2000.
The ceramics were led by a late 17th/early 18th century Bristol delft possett pot. The 10in (25cm) high pot had a domed cover decorated with chinoiserie style figures in a landscape. Estimated at £2500-3500, it took £2900.
