The new company has expanded to include the 18th century house adjoining the gallery where, between July 3 and 18, Australian artist Cressida Campbell (b.1960) hangs her eye-catching woodblocks (£1260-11,550).
Having visited Japan in 1980 to study traditional woodblock techniques, Campbell has developed her distinctive compositions by first drawing in pencil onto plywood and then carving out each line precisely. Watercolour is then applied to the block in layers and, just prior to taking the single impression, the block is refreshed with water.
The results, such as this large woodblock, right, Interior with White Lilies priced at £11,550, are stunning. Little wonder that her previous show two years ago at the gallery was so successful.
Campbell’s art coming again
TUCKED away through an archway next to wine merchants Berry Bros & Rudd in St James’s Street is Pickering Place, home of Nevil Keating Tollemache – formerly Nevill Keating. Pictures until director Angela Nevill formed a new company with Michael Tollemache, a past chairman of the Society of London Art Dealers and a specialist in Old Master and 19th century paintings.
