More than 200 pieces of jewellery, worth an estimated £60,000, were taken from two dealers’ showcases at the centre in the Essex town’s Market Row on Easter Bank Holiday Monday.

The thieves broke in through an upstairs window before forcing the locks on the displays, ignoring larger goods among the centre’s 40 dealers. A full list of the stolen items has yet to be prepared, but items taken range from secondhand modern pieces to Victorian and Georgian jewellery.
