Valued at $4000-6000, they sold for $13,000 (£7025), while the 15 1/4in (39cm) high, early 19th century black basalt vase with Greek decoration seen bottom right made $12,000 (£6485).

The day's surprise ceramic lot was a 70 or so piece Nymphenburg dinner service, gilt and enamel decorated with landscape cartouches. Catalogued as a mid-20th century service, it was valued at just $2000-3000, but went on to sell for $24,000 (£12,975).
