Even then, this year’s Surrey fair was in some doubt, since the regular venue, Guildford Civic Hall, is out of action due to rebuilding work.
Last year the owners of the fair, West Country exhibition organisers Trident Exhibitions, said they were seeking an alternative venue for this year. But their recent silence indicated that they did not find one.
When I contacted Trident last week, they admitted they could not find a venue for this autumn, and I got the impression they were not too confident of getting one for next year.
This would mean the end of the road for a quality fair which was once highly rated.
Trident bought the fair from Godalming dealer Roger Heath-Bullock a few years ago, and its profile has faded since.
End of road?
IT looks very much like the end of the road for one of our long-running provincial fixtures, the Surrey Antiques Fair, the 36th annual staging of which was held from October 2 to 5 last year.
