Similar to another clock by Ellicot, clockmaker to George III and inventor of the compensated pendulum, which sold in London last December for £10,000, this example was bought by a local buyer for a treble-estimate £24,000 plus 15 per cent buyer's premium.
Longcase clock sells for treble-estimate
PART of a collection of antiques from a late Shrewsbury area farmer’s estate, this 8ft 6in (2.59m) mahogany longcase clock made in 1765 by London clockmaker Ellicot was in original condition when it appeared at the Welsh Bridge saleroom of Halls' Fine Art on July 14.
