John Stinton Junior (John senior's eldest son, born in 1854) is best known for his cattle but was also a fine painter of topographic views.

Plates decorated with British castles within floral borders were a favourite series, two of which were seen at Hobbs Parker (10% buyer's premium) of Ashford on July 22.

Each measuring 11in (23cm) diameter, signed J. Stinton and probably dating from c.1910, one depicted Bothal Castle in Northumberland, the other the ruins at Brougham Castle on the edge of the Lake District. They made £460 each.
