Marine barometers were often purchased to decorate private houses rather than for use on board ship, and this example c.1840 included a spiral turned cylindrical tapering case housing the silvered brass register plates and a brass cistern cover.
Although Rodgerson’s name does not feature large in barometer texts, the style of the instrument and the address ‘11 South John Street’ suggests he was a Liverpool lad.
