First up was a 6ft 4in x 8ft (1.22 x 2.44m) Chinese silkwork creation showing a figure in a garden, musicians, dragons, birds and flowers in reds, blues, green and gold on a cream background which went privately at a quadruple-estimate £620.
It was followed by the fascinating patchwork quilt shown right, a kingsize creation made up by one William Brayley from material taken from uniforms of the Devonshire Regiment with which he served in India. Since then, it appears to have been kept in a drawer by his descendants, for the colours were still fresh and vivid.
It attracted interest, including some from America, well beyond the £350 top estimate and it finally went to a collector at £1650.
