Discussions are ongoing with Professor Rod Pilling, the new dean of the Faculty of Media, Arts and Society at the Southampton Solent University (previously known as Southampton Institute) that could resurrect the BA course in Fine Arts Valuation.
“We are hoping that Southampton will see sense on this issue and appreciate just how successful this course could be,” Mr Somers told ATG. “However, if the response turns out to be negative we will immediately search for alternatives.”
Mr Somers is also looking to expand membership of the RICS into America.
As a result of October’s annual conference in Dublin attended by members of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA), the Appraisers Association of America (AAA) and the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) closer links with the USA are being forged.
Following the recent elections, Mark Dalrymple and Rupert Toovey remain as joint vice chairmen of the RICS Fine Art and Antiques Faculty.
