Organisers Arthur Swallow Fairs announced the changes as ATG went to press following a poll of more than 5000 stallholders. They had put forward two options: discontinue Sunday trading but retain the current format of a Thursday set-up, Friday trade and Saturday public day, or change the fair to a Monday to Wednesday format just prior to the nearby Newark International Antiques and Collectors’ Fair.
“The result was overwhelmingly in favour of the B vote,” said Swallow’s on Friday.
This means that the January fair will move from January 26-29 to January 30-February 1.
Swallow’s say the desire for change reflects the falling off in Sunday trading at the disused airfield since January 2005, when the Newark fair moved from a Monday/Tuesday format, following Swinderby, to a three-day Thursday to Saturday event a full week after the rival event.
Other dates for 2006 are now: April 3-5, May 29-31, July 31-August 2, October 9-11 and December 4-6.
