Access to the premises at 47 Goldsworth Road in Woking, Surrey was via a hole knocked through the wall from the adjacent empty restaurant.

Shop owners Brian and Joyce Hartles have identified 126 missing books that they believe were very carefully selected from the cabinets. Framed maps and prints were also removed from the walls of the shop and others were taken from the plan cabinet. The items have an average value of just under £200.

Some of the more identifiable items include numerous Authur Rackhams including a limited edition of his Fairy Book, Rupert Annuals from 1943, 1944 and 1945, a set of volumes of Don Quixote in Spanish (1760), Upton’s Golliwogg’s Desert Island, various Wisdens from the 1950s, Knight’s Diary of a Pedestrian in Cashmere and Tibet and Taplin’s Sporting Dictionary.
