Another illustration of the demand for top quality English furniture surfaced last month, this time in Cheltenham. This elegant George II period mahogany serpentine side table came from the estate of Miss Angela Ward of Chipping Camden whose furniture featured in Bruton Knowles' sale at Southam, Nr Cheltenham on June 29. The 4ft 3in (1.3m) wide table had been estimated at £1500-2000 but, after bidding in the room and interest from half a dozen telephone bidders, it was taken to £45,000 (plus premium) selling over the phone to a London dealer.
