It is believed that the National Trust have expressed an interest in acquiring the chariot.
As reported in last week’s issue, the Reading auctioneers deemed the late 19th century chariot by Hooper & Co. of London the finest to appear at auction for a generation and expected it to bring in excess of £75,000.
Thimbleby & Shorland say the cancellation of the sale has caused a number of logistical problems, particularly in the preparation of the catalogue which will now be late.
Chariot cancellation
The formal state carriage from the family of the Marquess of Londonderry scheduled to be sold by Thimbleby & Shorland on September 6 has been withdrawn from sale by the vendor.
