The Edgar Degas bronze that will enter the Courtauld Institute after an inheritance tax deal brokered by Christie’s.
The 22in (56cm) high bronze Préparation à la danse, pied droit en avant will enter the Courtauld Institute after settling £157,500 of inheritance tax, while a William Nicholson still life, also from the estate, will go to the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge covering £105,000 worth of tax.
Lillian Browse, who died in December 2005, aged 99, was well known in the art world. She was part of the trio that set up Roland, Browse & Delbanco in 1945 and was known as the 'The Duchess of Cork Street'.
