Beautiful Inside My Head Forever incorporates works created by Hirst over the past two years including a monumental new sculpture, The Golden Calf, a bull in formaldehyde with 18-carat gold halo, hooves and horns.
Encased in a gold-plated stainless steel and glass box, it is estimated at £8m-12m.
Hirst has long operated outside the traditional vein. The sale will mark 20 years since he bypassed the usual gallery system to curate the landmark YBA exhibition Freeze.
Since then he has been represented by two of the world's most powerful galleries - Gagosian and White Cube - but retains the right to sell through other outlets. Sotheby's is his saleroom of choice: the venue for the Pharmacy sale in October 2004 and for the recent Red charity auction in New York organised with U2 frontman Bono.
"After the success of the Pharmacy auction, I always felt I would like to do another auction," said Hirst.
"It's a very democratic way to sell art and it feels like a natural evolution for contemporary art. Although there is risk involved, I embrace the challenge of selling my work in this way. I never want to stop working with my galleries. This is different. The world's changing, ultimately I need to see where this road leads."
