His installation at Watermen's Hall in the City of London on May 19 was of particular significance since it was during his time as chairman of BADA that he and Lord Brooke first seriously began to promote the idea of a City Livery Company for antiques dealers.
Since that time, he has worked tirelessly to establish the Guild, serving as honorary clerk from its inception. This role has now been taken on by Georgina Gough, who was officially appointed as clerk on the same evening.
Geoff Egan of the Museum of London becomes Upper Warden; Mark Bridge, editor-in-chief of ATG, becomes Middle Warden; and silver expert Philippa Glanville, becomes Renter Warden.
The Guild now has 150 members drawn not only from the art market but from the museum world, associated services and collectors.
It is expected that the Guild will apply to become a Company without livery within the next year and to proceed to full Livery Company status in due course.
