Christie’s Insurance Services aims to provide a “bespoke, seamless insurance that encompasses not only art but all personal insurance needs, including homes, cars and jewellery as well as travel, legal expenses and personal liability”.

They have created a dedicated team with Chubb and well-known specialist art insurance brokers Heath Lambert. ATG understand the service will be managed by existing Christie’s contacts for private clients, with support from the insurance professionals where the service – and the law – requires.

“In merging the art expertise of Christie’s with the insurance expertise of Heath Lambert and Chubb, any gaps and expensive overlaps that frequently occur with multiple advisers and multiple policies will be eliminated,” say Christie’s, who will market the policy with the catchphrase ‘One contact point, one policy, one renewal date and one premium’.

Among the benefits offered by the policy will be automatic worldwide cover on any new purchase, with what are described as “more than generous limits”.

European private clients based in London will be able to use the service, but complex legal requirements across other parts of the world such as the US prevent it from being extended further for the time being.

Christie’s say the service will synchronise with any arrangements clients have with Christie’s Fine Art Security Services, Christie’s Art Transport and the firm’s auction business.
