Jörg Wiesniewski, partner at lot-tissimo, a provider of online art and antiques catalogues catering for 150 out of the 200 German auctioneers, believes there is a huge potential demand for live internet bidding in Germany.

“We are confident that live internet auctions will have a loyal following from buyers of arts and antiques [here] and we are excited to be the first business to take this step forward,” he said.

Within a few months the aim is to be able to host catalogues and live auctions on the-saleroom and lot-tissimo simultaneously. This joint offering will give auctioneers access to both the English-speaking and German-speaking markets in one operation.

The first auctions to be webcast in Germany will be the June sales of Wendl (www.auktionshaus-wendl.de) and Kaupp (www.kaupp.de).
