Lord Chadlington, who was made a life peer in 1996, is currently chief executive of Huntsworth, the public relations and healthcare communications company, and was a former director of Halifax. With this high profile appointment, LAPADA will surely hope to benefit from Lord Chadlington's considerable knowledge of communications, business and politics.

Lord Chadlington has served as a non-executive director on a number of boards including HBOS, Britax and Tempus, and has been a member of the Arts Council, chairman of the Royal Opera House and was the first chairman of the Lottery Distribution arm of the Arts Council of England.

Sarah Percy-Davis, chief executive of LAPADA, commented: "Lord Chadlington has the ideal experience to drive the association forward, I feel sure he will be a dynamic chairman and we are very much looking forward to working with him."

Lord Chadlington takes over from Earl Howe, who stepped down as chairman last June when he was made Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health in the new government. However, Lord Howe will remain as president of LAPADA, a newly created non-executive position.

Three new members have also been elected to join the LAPADA board of directors by the AGM. They are Ian Butchoff of Butchoff Antiques, the jewellery dealer Catherine McKenna and Jacqueline Pruskin, a consultant and freelance journalist specialising in 20th and early 21st century applied arts and design.
