Measuring 7 x 2in (18 x 5cm), the box is heavily carved and bears the inscription Robert Burns excise man, wood from Gloume Castle, 1793.
It is contained in an early 20th century morocco leather inscribed fitted case along with various documents of provenance.
Estimated at £800-1200, it will go under the hammer at Thomson Roddick on December 1 in Dumfries.
