After fighting in the Battle of Britain and surviving a near-fatal mid-air collision in 1942, two years later Flight Lt Bob Poulton's Spitfire developed a leak near Fruges, France.
He was forced to parachute out and landed in a field with a broken leg. He was captured, taken to a German hospital and sent to a POW camp.
The squadron believed that he had died and the original telegram reporting him missing has been kept and is included in the lot. There is also his Caterpillar Club membership card, awarded to all whose lives had been saved by an Irwin parachute, a hand-written POW war-time log containing humorous sketches, stories and names of fellow inmates, and a poignant album of photographs from 1940.
