The 18in x 4ft 2in (46 x 1.27m) signed oil on canvas depicted a scene in west Connemara, County Galway and was one of his detailed panoramas which tend to be his most sought-after works. It was estimated at £6000-8000.
The London-born artist was appointed the head of painting at Ulster College of Art, Belfast in 1953 and founded the Irish School of Landscape Painting four years later.
With a good following in Northern Ireland in particular, the picture here sold for £6200 to a private Ulster buyer.
