Amassed by the Pennsylvanian-born steel magnate and philanthropist Michael Coslov, the collection includes some of the most recognisable and desirable pieces in the genre such as this rare Minton tortoise teapot, c.1878, model no. 629, estimated at $25,000-35,000.

Specialist David Walker says it promises to be "a landmark sale in the category", forming a dedicated 70-lot section in Freeman's October 7 catalogue of English & Continental Furniture & Decorative Arts sale.

A selection of pieces from the Michael Coslov collection will be shown at The Royal Opera Arcade in Pall Mall from September 9-11 (10am-4.30pm) alongside items from Lyon & Turnbull's forthcoming 'on the premises' sale of contents from Bantry House that takes place in County Cork on October 21.
