One of the most notable is the watercolour Bathing Machines, Aldeburgh by Eric Ravilious (1903-42) which will be offered at JS Auctions in Banbury on September 27.
From the same deceased estate that has also yielded an Edward Bawden (1903-89) watercolour of Brick House in Great Bardfield, the signed picture is dated August 1938 and has not been seen since it was sold at an exhibition at Arthur Tooth & Sons in May 1939.
According to the Ravilious expert James Russell, whose series of 'In Pictures' art books focusing on the artist were published by Mainstone Press, the artist is known to have visited Aldeburgh in late August 1938 as he travelled around the country seeking out inspiring subjects.
Although scholars were aware of the existence of a work with this title, the picture itself was actually unknown even to Ravilious's descendants and therefore, for followers and collectors alike, it represents a real discovery.
The picture shows a view of the blue-and-white-striped bathing machines along the seafront of the coastal Suffolk town.
It is estimated at £40,000-60,000.
