The 40 lot Wanted: Banksy auction at The Westbury Hotel in Mayfair on October 12 raised £662,000 including buyer’s premium.
Records were set for Girl with balloon, 2004, from an edition of 150 in pencil, which sold for £69,000, against an estimate of £50,000-70,000, and Rude Copper, 2002, numbered from an edition of 250 in pencil, which sold £9000 (est: £6000-9000). Kate Moss, 2005, from an edition of 50, sold for £45,000 (est: £35,000-50,000).
The works were accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Banksy’s official Pest Control Office.
The auction was the first for Forum’s Modern & Contemporary art and Editions department.
Head of department Rupert Worrall said: "The breadth and depth of bidding from British, American and European buyers demonstrated that Banksy's market is thriving.”
Forum is now accepting consignments for its next sale of Modern & Contemporary Editions which already has works by Banksy, Roy Lichtenstein, Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol.
More than £40,000 of the Banksy artworks were sold online via thesaleroom.com.
