Christ Carrying the Cross c.1515-17 is one of several versions of an innovative composition which combines monumental figures with the powerful diagonals of the cross.
The AIC did not disclose the price it paid but credits Colnaghi – recently merged with Spanish dealers Jorge Coll and Nicolás Cortés – with “the first major discovery of a work by Sebastiano in recent years”.
