The 196 lots of 20th and 21st century works of art and design were sold at Christie’s South Kensington on October 13 in a sale called Gordon Watson The Collector.

Watson founded his gallery in the 1970s in central London and high-profile clients have included stars Elton John and Mick Jagger.

Watson has appeared on Channel 4’s Four Rooms and BBC2’s The Extraordinary Collector.

He said the pieces from his collection were destined “to travel from one connoisseur to another”.

Highlights from the sale included a Black Cat (2013) lamp by Studio Job which sold for £35,000, against an estimate of £8000-12,000.

A rock crystal and rose quartz box (2015) by Paul Belvoir sold for £6000, against a £3000-5000 estimate.

This Industry table (2008) by Studio Job was part of a sale of the collection of dealer Gordon Watson at Christie’s South Kensington on October 13. It sold for £45,000, above the £20,000-30,000 estimate.

An iridescent ammonite from Canada from the upper Cretaceous period sold below estimate at £26,000 (est: £30,000-£50,000) but another piece by Studio Job, Industry table (2008), sold for £45,000, above the £20,000-30,000 estimate.
