Grand Auctions will be selling the works of art as part of two auctions on September 19 – their regular Fine Art sale and a special charity auction to fund the building of a school in Rwanda.
The auction firms’ Fine Art sale, which takes place five times a year, will next week include signed prints by LS Lowry. The Beach depicts Deal, just up the coast from the site of the auction in Kent.
Three other prints feature Peel Park in Salford, Station Approach and Level Crossing all produced by Venture Prints in 1973. Three of the Lowry prints are estimated at £1500-2500 and a drawing and one faded print command an estimate of £800-1200 each.
In the same sale are five prints of HRH Prince Charles’s works of Balmoral, Windsor Castle and Sandringham from 1994, produced by printmaker Stanley Jones on a German lithography press with estimates between £1000-1500.
“Painter of Kings”
One of the highlights of the charity auction, which follows the Fine Art sale, is Patha Patha by Welsh-born painter Andrew Vicari.
Vicari’s fortune was valued at £92m a decade ago in the Sunday Times Rich List after a career of painting royalty – particularly in Saudi Arabia. He has previously been described as the “painter of Kings” and his subjects have included Vladimir Putin, Sophia Loren, Mao Tse-Tung, Francois Mitterand and Prince Rainier of Monaco.
Despite the valuation of his vast fortune 10 years ago, it was reported that Vicari had bankruptcy proceedings against him in 2014.
Patha Patha was put up for sale by Christie’s Dubai for £13,000-18,000 in 2006. It is now part of the charity auction of 140 paintings being sold by Tunbridge Wells art gallery owner Nick Hills to raise money to help fund the Rwandan school project. It has an estimate in next week’s auction of £800-1200.
