Auctioneer Aubrey Dawson and a business partner have set up Dawson's Auctioneers on the Kings Grove Estate in Maidenhead.

Dawson said he chose the location as it is at least 20 minutes away from any other auction firm.

He said: “Maidenhead is a good affluent area and we have been looking for the right location here for some time.”

Six Specialist Sales a Year

Dawson is hiring staff including a porter and a cataloguer and is in discussion with another auctioneer to join by the new year.

The company is accepting consignments for its first fine art and antiques sale on January 21. Dawson plans to host a monthly auction alongside six specialist sales a year including Asian art, silver, jewellery and militaria.

Dawson has worked as an auctioneer and an insurance and probate valuer for the past 17 years, mainly as a consultant. He previously worked at John Nicholson’s Fine Art Auctioneers in Fernhurst on the Surrey/Sussex border.

Other auction firms to have also been launched by former John Nicholson staff include Hannams Auctioneers in Selborne, Hampshire and Mid Sussex Auctions in West Sussex.
