His first book, The Benson Collection of Early English Spoons (2013), is well regarded and he is following this with an even more ambitious magnum opus, the two-volume Silver Spoons of Britain 1200–1720, a culmination of 10 years of research.
Constable, a former chairman of the Silver Society and a founding liveryman of The Worshipful Company of Art Scholars, visited many collections in private hands, museums and livery companies as part of his research.
Each spoon, 220 in total, has been photographed in detail. The book, which retails at £395, starts with the Acorn Knop and finishes with the Dog-nose as the last of the early spoons before they evolved into the various forms we use today.
