The exhibition About the Young Idea is now in its second season and following its close in September, Adam Partridge Auctioneers are set to hold a sale of the majority of the collection and say it represents one of the biggest rock ’n’ roll auctions ever held in Europe.
“This is an unbelievable collection and some of the lots will be dream keepsakes to fans of the band and fans of British music,” says auctioneer Chris Surfleet, who will be taking the two-day sale.
It will consist of 500 lots and thousands of items from guitars to posters to record pressings. The sale total is estimated in excess of £300,000.
The Jam held 18 consecutive Top 40 singles between 1977 and 1982. The band dressed in tailored suits and produced punk/mod-revival tracks. They are described as being ‘the voice of a generation’ with otherwise disparate tastes and interests.
Each of the lots in the sale comes from the exhibition About the Young Idea which ran at Somerset House in summer 2015 and moved to Liverpool’s Cunard Building in July this year.
“We have all original recording acetates, tour jackets and clothing worn by the band including one of Weller’s pin stripe suits and a Wembly dressing gown,” Surfleet added.
Also included is a drum kit estimated at £20,000-30,000.
The auction runs from October 7-8.
