Victoria Borwick, MP for Kensington and president of the British Antique Dealers’ Association, told delegates at the Art Business Conference this morning that Brexit was a chance for the UK market to have EU-originated laws reviewed as the UK exits the Union.

She asked delegates to tell her of “particular opportunities that your market should take advantage of when leaving the EU”.

In her keynote speech to a packed auditorium, Borwick singled out Artist’s Resale Right as a law that has “added to our administrative burdens”.

She said that new minister for culture, Karen Bradley, and Mayor of London Sadiq Kahn, were keen that she reassure the art and antiques industry that "Britain is open for business" in a post-Brexit world.

"Across the world we are going to bang the drum for Britain and pull out all the stops in boosting our trade, promoting the UK as a place to do business," Borwick said.
