Antiques on High has traded on the High Street in the university town for 20 years but the current owner, antiquarian book dealer Tony Sloggett, plans to retire.

The lease on the premises at 85 High Street, comes to an end in March and a new owner of the business is needed to take on the lease.

There are 30 specialist antique dealers in the centre which Sloggett has run for the past 11 years.

Traders are still hopeful someone will come forward to take on the lease.

As reported in ATG (No 2263) by Joan Porter on October 22, Sloggett said: “Our lease on the premises runs out at the end of March and as I shall by then be 72, it is time for me to sell the business to someone who is happy to take on the responsibility for some years to come.”

The property is owned by University College and a buyer would need to negotiate a new lease with the landlord. Sloggett said he would be happy to help in the negotiations.
