Contemporary and Latin American art specialist Vivian Pfeiffer joins from Christie’s as Phillips’ head of business development and deputy chairman for the Americas and will be based in New York and Miami.

She is joined by Cândida Sodré, previously a director in Christie’s Rio de Janeiro office. At Phillips she is regional director in Brazil and will report into Pfeiffer.

These hires follow the appointment of Cecilia Laffan last year as regional director in Mexico. They continue the trend of Phillips hiring from its larger rivals.

Chief executive Ed Dolman spent 27 years at Christie’s before arriving at Phillips in 2014.

The auction firm’s joint headquarters are in London and New York.

The Americas is a key area of expansion for Phillips and it expanded in Los Angeles and Seattle last year. The firm has also focused on expanding in Asia with a series of recent appointments in its Tokyo, Seoul and Taipei offices.
