The 1927 book of verse was taken from the stand of Vanessa Parker’s Rare Books & Robert Grimes Antiques at the Irish Antique Dealers Association fair last September. The book was not discovered to be missing until after the four-day fair had ended.
Last week, however, it was returned unharmed to the Greenway Old Thatch Antiques & Book Store where Parker and Grimes are based. The dealers received no explanation about where the book had been and it was returned anonymously.
“Obviously we are delighted and we thank the perpetrator for returning it,” said Grimes. He added that the thief “must have turned over a new leaf”.
It is now back for sale and is offered for €1100.
