The pair of terracotta panels depict scenes from the life of Christ and are thought to be Italian from the first half of the 19th century. They were ticketed at £2400 on the stand of Something Different of Somerset when they caught the eye of Rev Eric Robinson last Friday.

“We have the perfect place for them in our St Nicholas Chapel,” said Robinson, who bought the panels for the Priory Church of the Holy Trinity in Micklegate. “Hopefully we can have them up in time for Advent.”

Robinson added that one panel, showing a scene of the Holy Family, would be particularly enjoyed by the children of the parish.

“For the panels to go to a place of worship is the highest honour. I am extremely happy they are going home,” said dealer Karen Jones of Something Different.

The newly rebranded Northern Antiques Fair took place last week from October 19-22. Something Different was among more than 30 dealers in attendance.
