But this bug is not a secret recording device, it is a gold and turquoise insect brooch worn by the actress that played Bond’s secretary Miss Moneypenny.

Lois Maxwell, who played Miss Moneypenny in 14 Bond movies, wore and owned the brooch. She wore it in two Bond films: the 1969 On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and again in the 1983 film Octopussy.

The current owner bought it at the Christie’s James Bond sale in February 2001, a sale that also featured the bikini worn by actress Ursula Andress in the film Dr No and the 1965 Aston Martin DB5 driven by Pierce Brosnan in the 1995 film GoldenEye.

The owner of the 18ct gold brooch, which has its wings set with diamonds, ruby eyes, and a polished turquoise stone body, now plans to sell it and is offering it at the Jewellery, Watches & Coins sale at Ewbank’s Auctions in Surrey on June 20 with an estimate of £2000-4000.
