Eva Violante joins Phillips

Phillips is expanding its jewellery team in the Americas with the appointment of Eva Violante as senior specialist and vice president, based in New York.

She joins Phillips from Heritage Auctions, where she was the fine jewellery director in New York. She also spent many years in both New York and Madrid as a senior international buyer at CIRCA, a prominent buyer of pre-owned jewellery, gemstones and watches.

Violante reports to Susan Abeles, who joined Phillips earlier this year as the head of jewellery for the Americas and senior international specialist, senior vice president.

The auction house has also announced the appointment of Anne Mock as an associate jewellery specialist in New York. She joins from Harry Winston, where she was a quality control analyst.

McTear’s hires jewellery specialist and opens in Edinburgh

Auction house McTear’s has opened a valuation office in Edinburgh and hired watches and jewellery specialist Neil Mitchinson as a consultant to run the new location.

Founded in 1842, the company has a saleroom in west Glasgow on Meiklewood Road. The Edinburgh office is on Hopetoun Crescent.

Brian Clements, managing director, said: “As growth has continued we have seen more and more enquiries coming from Edinburgh and the east. We felt that it would be beneficial to have a dedicated resource in the capital.”

The Edinburgh office will value all categories of art and antiques with Mitchinson focused on watches, jewellery and whisky, and the wider McTear’s team of specialists will value other works of art and objects.
