Guided at £8000-12,000 is this patinated bronze model of a nude youth by German sculptor Mathieu Molitor (1873-1929). Conceived during the artist’s stay in Rome in 1907, the model demonstrates the early, more academically inclined output of Molitor’s oeuvre and is possibly derived from the ancient Greek ‘Apoxyomenos’ sculptures, which show nude athletes with their hands in similar attitudes. Until recently, this rather neglected-looking George II mahogany table was used as a workbench in a shed in the West Country. Made in the manner of William Kent (1685-1748), the 3ft 3in x 6ft 6in (1 x 1.98m) table is raised on paired legs with carved volutes and lion mask capitals and features a central frieze drawer with a carved mask of Apollo.
