These rather unremarkable-looking chairs were reputedly used by Winston Churchill and General Dwight Eisenhower during D-Day discussions in 1944. According to the auction house, the dining chairs came from Cholderton House, Wiltshire, where the pair would sit on Sundays finalising plans for D-Day.
The chairs will be offered in a set of four at Special Auction Services of Newbury on July 9, estimated at £500-1000.

This pair of Sèvres porcelain verrières is estimated at £800-1200 in the July 9-10 auction at Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood.
The ceramics section in a two-day auction at Exeter saleroom Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood on July 9-10 will include a pair of 11½in (29cm) wide Sèvres porcelain verrières. Together they are estimated at £800-1200.
The pieces are decorated to the sides with floral bouquets and sprays, with the rim, foot and handles painted in blue and gilt lines. A date letter for 1769 and the numerals 119 are marked to the base of one verrière.

3. Atlas of England and Wales
This first edition of Christopher Saxton’s maps of the counties of England and Wales, issued in 1579, will be offered for sale at Forum Auctions on July 10, estimated at £50,000-70,000.
From 1570-78 the Yorkshire surveyor and cartographer Christopher Saxton (c.1540- 1610) mapped the counties of England and Wales in previously unsurpassed detail.
Financed by one of Lord Burghley’s associates, Thomas Seckford, and with government support, Saxton did the mapping himself. He used information that was already available but improved its accuracy on the ground.
This first edition by Saxton was issued in 1579, making it the earliest atlas depicting the county maps of England and Wales. Its ownership dates back to 1589, just a few years after it was made, with the inscription for Geo Cotton, most likely that of George Cotton (1560-1646), grandson of Sir George Cotton (1505-45), Sheriff of Denbighshire and courtier to Henry VIII.
It will be offered for sale at Forum Auctions in central London on July 10, estimated at £50,000-70,000.

Original architectural drawings featuring designs for Tower Bridge in London are up for sale at Stroud Auctions in Gloucestershire on July 10-11.
The drawings, contained in 2ft 2in x 3ft 3in (67cm x 1m) booklets titled Contract Drawings, cover details such as the chains, roadways and masonry. Each booklet relates to a specific stage of the project.
One is marked in pen Mr J.W.Barry’s copy for the engineer John Wolfe Barry (1836-1918) who designed the bridge with English architect Horace Jones (1819-87) in 1884. The booklets are estimated at £100-200 each.
